Abnormal spatial selection and tracking in children with amblyopia
نویسندگان
چکیده
We assessed 18 children with unilateral amblyopia and 30 age-matched controls on one low-level and three high-level motion tasks. Children with amblyopia showed similar performance to controls in both amblyopic and fellow eyes on a low-level global motion task and on a high-level 2-dot apparent motion task. Performance on both single-object and multiple-object attentive tracking tasks was significantly depressed in both amblyopic and fellow eyes relative to controls. These findings suggest that binocular regions of posterior parietal cortex likely contribute to a deficit in voluntary, spatial attention that is a component of amblyopia.

Amblyopia is an acquired defect in ocular vision that is due to abnormal visual acuity which can be unilateral of bilateral, and can not be directly related to structural defects or optic radiation.Amblyopia can be effectively treated during the first decade of lift in most cases.for this reason in a cross sectional study in 1996 with multistage random sampling 1726 students in age 7-8 years old...
متن کاملAdvanced Analysis of PRVEP in Anisometropic Amblyopia
Introduction: to identify the pattern-reversal visual evoked potential (PRVEP) waveform descriptor by evaluating discrete wavelet transform (DWT) in order to optimize stimulus in the diagnosis of anisometropia amblyopia. Materials and Methods: The PRVEP testing was performedfor 31 normal individuals and 35 patients with amblyopia. The stimuli were consisted of spatial frequencies of 1, 2, and 4...
متن کاملInvestigating the Relationship of Visual Treatment and Rehabilitation With the Quality of Life and Visual Status in Children With Diagnosed Amblyopia
Objectives: To assess the relationship between visual rehabilitation with the quality of life and visual status in children who had been diagnosed with amblyopia in the national amblyopia screening program. Methods: Information was gathered from optometric centers in the cities of Nowshahr, Chalus, and Kelardasht, or in case it was not available, from parents of participating children. The KIN...
متن کاملSpatial interactions in amblyopia: Effects of stimulus parameters and amblyopia type
Adults with amblyopia were recently shown to perform abnormally in tasks requiring integration of local features into global percepts. Moreover, spatial interactions in amblyopic patients, though often found to be abnormal, showed marked variability. Here we measured collinear lateral interactions using Gabor patches in a large number of amblyopic (N=75) and normal subjects (N=25), testing four...
متن کاملVisual Acuity Before and After Occlusion Therapy in Children and Adolescents (Aged 5-13 years) Amblyopia
Purpose: To evaluate the effect of occlusion therapy on visual acuity in children and adolescents (aged 5-13 years) with amblyopia. Methods: This experimental study followed a pretest-posttest design. Totally, 72 people with amblyopic eyes (visual acuity between 20/100 and 20/25) were selected through convenient sampling. The visual acuity was assessed at 1, 3, and 6 months after starting occlu...
